Type: Trying to get somewhere
People: Cathy and Jamie
Featured: a bar, a train, and an elevator
Cathy and Jamie and I are in a bar/restaurant. Someone shows us a newspaper with a photo of the bar we’re in. It’s a picture taken from above the bar, of a guy who had died, or maybe he killed someone? But what we notice is that Cathy and Jamie are also in the picture, sitting at the bar to his right. (I’m not with them in the photo.)
The scene shifts and we are walking down the hall of the same building, looking for the elevator to go up to the top floor. It’s not where we remember it being, and can’t find it. We end up on a train platform and see a small train backing out. We wave and call out to the driver, who pulls back up to speak to us. “I’m not going up,” he tells us, shaking his head like we’re crazy. We continue our search back in the hall, and realize the elevator is there after all, but not where it used to be. It’s behind some sort of curtain thing.
Annotations:
Cathy and Jamie: long-time friends, with whom I used to frequent places like the old Santa Cruz Hotel (later the Red Room), and Positively Front Street back in the late 1970s and early ’80s. Both those places were similar to the place in my dream--lots of dark wood and sort of beat-up.
The photo: The bit about being in the photo with the guy who died or killed someone likely comes from the fact that Robin has a Time magazine photo taken at the famous Altamont concert, in which you can see Robin, Mick Jagger, and the guy who was killed by the Hells Angels at the concert.
And we just watched a Seinfeld where George was accidentally in a photo on the top right. No one was killed but a boombox ended up in the ocean. Leslie thinks it has nothing to do with this but...
ReplyDeleteRobin has a picture with her and Mick Jagger? How have I never seen this?
ReplyDeleteActually, it was a Newsweek magazine (and also Rolling Stone). I will show it to you when I return! I didn't make it into Gimme Shelter, though, even though my friend did.
